Rinse clean with water and allow to air dry after use. Since detergent residue can destroy the flavor of our favorite wines, most wine experts caution against using detergents. They suggest instead a solution of baking soda if necessary.
Although the World has yet to see an accomplished vintner sell their best wines in those 3-liter boxes that have become so popular with the public, wine that is actually quite palatable for everyday use is finding its way to market in boxes. The convenience and practicality of boxed wine is undeniable, especially for a single or a couple who are not prepared to polish off a whole bottle of wine each night at dinner. Drain off into a decanter as much wine as you expect to use during the meal beforehand, allowing it to moderate and develop before drinking; an especially sensible practice since most folks put the box in the refrigerator after cracking the spigot.

This is practically guaranteed to improve what are less than stellar wines. And of course, a nice crystal decanter will turn having a glass of wine at dinner into an event.
